The Last of Us was developer Naughty Dog's first outing after its popular Uncharted trilogy, and there were certainly some heavy expectations on the title.

The game has received some excellent reviews — currently an average score of 95 per cent, according to Metacritic — and now, Sony has released some sales figures for the title.

Since its launch on 14 June, The Last of Us has sold over 3.4 million copies worldwide, making it the best selling PS3 game of 2013.

If you haven't played the title yet, we highly recommend it: it's a harrowing and challenging game, but ultimately a genuinely rewarding experience for the adult gamer.

The news bodes well for both Naughty Dog and the continuing tradition of console exclusives. As the battle for the dollar between the Xbox One and PS4 heats up, expect more news on the various exclusive games for each of those consoles.
