The portable Alex Bottle splits in two

Looking at a portable water bottle from a new perspective is as easy as twisting it open. The Alex Bottle opens in the middle and can be used to carry everything from soup to nuts.

There aren't too many things that breaking in half makes better -- but they are out there. After all, one can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs. Taking this as a cue, perhaps it is beneficial to take a deeper look inside some familiar objects. While it is probably not a good idea to go around and start cutting everything in the kitchen in half, it seems a well-placed cut can help the lowly portable water bottle gain new life.

Easy to take for granted because they are such a part of regular life, reusable bottles blend into the background -- that is until someone cuts one in half. The Alex Bottle is a portable bottle that twists open from the middle as well as having a regular opening on top.

The Kickstarter has reached its funding goal is expected to begin shipping March 2015. It is still available internationally in a variety of mix and match colors for $34, which converts to about £22, AU$39, not including shipping.

Like many innovations, once they become reality, the implications become obvious. The first thing I thought of when I saw how easy the Alex bottle would be to clean was what else can I put in there? The answer is anything (even cracked eggs a la "Rocky" if one were so inclined). Since the opening in the middle allows for easy cleaning, there are no worries about unseen residue lurking in the darkness.
