'Texts from Hillary:' When LOLCats met Hillary Clinton

The hottest new Tumblr features witty fictional text messages between the U.S. secretary of state and the likes of President Obama, Lady Gaga, and others. Now Hillary herself has weighed in.

This picture, signed by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is proof that Clinton actually submitted an entry to the hot Tumblr, Texts from Hillary. Texts from Hillary

How much fun can you have adding funny text to someone else's photograph? If you're the U.S. secretary of state, apparently quite a lot.

It's already been proven that if you let the general public add their own cute sayings to pictures of cats, you can build an entire empire on top of it. And now, thanks to the Tumblr blog Texts from Hillary, you too can create your own snarky narrative involving, yes, pictures of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton texting.

It started as a quirky site where random people can make submissions featuring, say, Jon Stewart texting "Daily Show this week?" to Hillary and having the former First Lady respond, "Already booked Colbert."

But now the blog has gone from viral blogosphere hit to mainstream media sensation after Clinton herself made a submission and welcomed the blog's two creators, Adam Smith and Stacy Lambe, to the State Department.

"It was great," Smith told Politico. "She came out, she was all smiles, told us how much she likes the site and that people have been telling her all about it....She just thinks it's great."

Unlike the LOLCats phenomenon, which revolves around countless pictures of cats, Texts from Hillary uses just two photographs, one by Reuters photographer Kevin Lamarque and the other by Diana Walker of "Time." In both cases, Clinton is seen with what appears to be a BlackBerry in her hand, studiously focused on the device. That, of course, is the fodder from which great Internet memes are born, and sure enough, the Tumblr has gone absolutely nuts. In just six days.

In the very first post, we see a reclining Barack Obama text, "Hey Hil, Whatchu doing?" To which the secretary of state responds, "Running the world." The second post shows Sarah Palin texting "We almost had the same job..." and Clinton's reply, "Lolz, b---h please."

It goes on from there, of course, pairing Hillary (and her fictional texts) with everyone from Lady Gaga to Oprah to Joe Biden to Rachel Maddow, and so on.

But it wasn't until Clinton herself weighed in that the site went supernova. And for the first, time, the site has a brand-new, all-original photo: the Secretary of State with Smith and Lambe, Clinton smiling broadly, the blog's two creators both busily tapping away on their phones.
