AUSTRALIA--Telstra's broadband network was hammered by four mishaps in the space of three days. The first, which occurred at about 3:30 p.m. Friday, Australian time, was an ADSL hardware fault that hit metropolitan Melbourne, resulting in slow response times for Net users. Two hours later, a hardware fault hit Sydney BigPond broadband customers, and cable and ADSL users, again slowing Web response times.
Both issues affected Telstra's domestic network and were solved by 8:30 p.m., only to be supervened by an undersea cable failure three hours later and resulting in all international Web traffic being crippled. The cable repair ship "Seguro" has been assigned to tackle the problem, said Telstra. To cap off the bout of bad luck, a separate network fault struck Sunday. The problem was resolved by 3:30 p.m. that day, according to Lawrence.
