GTE and Bell Atlantic agreed to merge today, the latest sign of consolidation in the telecommunications industry. Adopting a "grow-or-die" philosophy, telcos are expected to keep buying one another. Whether the merger mania will pass regulatory muster, however, remains to be seen.
