Here in New York City, we're a little preoccupied with the transit strike. A lot of small businesses are shuttered since workers can't get in, and other businesses, large and small, are noticing the effects.
My physical therapist's office, which has about 20 employees, was pretty empty today; a lot of the patients have physical ailments and can't get around if buses aren't running.
But a major difference between now and the last New York transit strike, some 25 years ago, is communications and computer technology. BlackBerrys, smart phones, and Wi-Fi have saved the day for a lot of companies that rely on brainpower.
"Some say technology is a big reason why the transit strike has not caused as much chaos as people had expected," says one story in a local newspaper.
