Target to sell TiVo DVRs

Retail giant will give TiVo wider retail distribution ahead of the holiday season.

TiVo announced Wednesday that Target will be the latest big retailer to sell recorders that use TiVo's digital video recording service. Adding Target to its roster of retailers, gives TiVo wider distribution this holiday season as the company aims to increase the number of subscribers to its service. The company recently cut the price of its 40-hour recorder machine to $99 (after a $100 rebate) to further boost its subscriber numbers. The service costs $12.95 per month or $299 for subscription that last the lifetime of the recorder, about four years.

More than 4,000 stores will sell TiVo's Series2 recorders. Other major retail chains selling TiVo recorders include, Best Buy, Circuit City, Sam?s Club, Costco, CompUSA, Dell, Tweeter, Ultimate Electronics, Fry?s and the Good Guys.
