Target, Amazon extend partnership

Target will continue to use Amazon e-commerce technology through August 2010.

Discount chain Target has extended its liaison with Amazon Enterprise Solutions for another two years, the two companies announced on Tuesday. Amazon Enterprise Solutions is a division of that is responsible for developing software that makes Amazon's e-commerce technology available to other retailers.

Collaboration between Target and Amazon began in 2001 with the placement of a Target store on the Amazon Web site. The partnership took its current form in 2002, when Target unveiled a new Web site where products were sold independently of Amazon but utilized the online retail giant's technology to handle e-commerce elements such as order processing and checkout. Additionally, Amazon users can use their login information when shopping online at Target. Due to expire in 2008, the partnership has now been extended to August 2010.
