Tandem clusters solutions

Tandem's ServerNet Development Kit, which lets hardware makers offer clustering solutions, is now available.

Tandem Computers (TDM) announced the availability of the ServerNet Development Kit (SDK) that lets companies such as Compaq Computer and Dell Computer implement plans to offer clustering solutions based on the ServerNet scheme.

ServerNet is a PCI-based switching card that moves data between systems at a rapid rate with cables and software drivers. When combined with software that distributes processes, expected in an add-on to Microsoft Windows NT, the technologies will allow PC-based networks to implement failover and eventually distributed clustering of several PC server systems.

The SDK will allow companies who have licensed the ServerNet technology, such as Compaq, to complete plans to offer clustering solutions by the end of the year. Fourteen companies have signed on as original equipment manufacturers for the ServerNet technology.
