Feel the need for speed? Virtual reality lets you tour aircraft carrier

A German newspaper takes VR for a spin out at sea with two 360-degree videos shot aboard the USS Harry S. Truman.

Want to stand in one of the most dangerous places on Earth without leaving home? New virtual-reality video from German magazine Bild and VR content producer Jaunt puts you on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman operating in the Persian Gulf.

Whether or not you have a VR headset, you can still spin the videos around and see jets taking off and kitchen staff scurrying to feed 5,000 sailors. Or just check out the photo of Truman himself on the commanding officer's wall.

Part one of the video series introduces the gigantic ship and its purpose; part two delves a bit more into the life of the crew. German reporter Hannes Ravic isn't afraid to ask the big questions. (Most popular meals? Pizza and wings!) But you may find yourself tuning out and just spinning around for different views of the enormous floating airbase, especially as jets zoom by. Grab your wingman and give it a whirl.
