The T-Mobile variant of the HTC One S takes one step closer to reality with a swank launch event planned for April 18. The invites just hit our in-boxes and frankly I can barely control my excitement.

Sure, the HTC One S may not thrill as many people as the upcoming HTC Evo 4G LTE, but since the fresh Evo is essentially a dialed-down version of the international HTC One X, the One S is still a white-hot device in my book. Running Android Ice Cream Sandwich and likely the same dual-core Qualcomm S4 CPU as its Sprint sibling, the only major differences will be a smaller 4.3-inch display and HSPA+ (3.5G), compared with the new Evo's 4.7-inch screen and LTE 4G connection.

The T-Mobile press event is scheduled for 7 p.m. on April 18 and will also feature the Detroit indie-pop band Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., so apparently we're in store for a rollicking evening. Stay tuned for more information as we get it.
