Want a 'free' tablet? T-Mobile gives away Alcatel 7-incher for Valentine's Day

You'll still have to pay for a monthly wireless plan on the carrier's Alcatel OneTouch Pop 7 promotion, but the tablet's cost is on T-Mobile.

T-Mobile, sensing that love is in the air, has revived its Tablet on Us promotion. This coming Valentine's Day weekend, the wireless provider will give you the 7-inch Alcatel OneTouch Pop 7 for "free."

In this case, "free" means that you get the tablet without paying for the equipment, but you'll still pay the sales tax and purchase a monthly data plan, starting at 1GB for $20 per month.

Normally priced at $168, T-Mobile waives the $7 per month equipment payment just so long as you keep current with the bill. Buyers who cancel the service before the 24 month period is up will have to pay off the remaining balance.

Powered by Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, the Alcatel OneTouch Pop 7 features a 1,024 x 600-pixel display and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Under the hood we find a dual-core 1.3 GHz processor, 1GB RAM, and 8GB of internal storage.

The Tablet On Us promotion is available in T-Mobile retail stores from February 12 to 16 while supplies last.
