Symantec confirms incorrect identification of Cache Out as Trojan; fixes
We previously reported that Norton AntiVirus apparently has some trouble correctly identifying files that are defined under Intego's questionable "MW2004 Trojan" umbrella, mistakenly identifying components of a popular shareware maintenance utility - Cache Out- as infected.
We've since received word that Symantec is aware of the issue and has already released a new definition that will resolve the mistaken report:
"Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh definitions issued on May 13, 2004 incorrectly identified Cache Control 1.0, Cache Out X 2.0 and Cache Out X 2.1 as being infected with MacOS.MW2004.Trojan. This issue has been resolved and updated definitions are now available. Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh users can click on 'LiveUpdate' or go to http://securityresponse.symantec.com and click on 'Download Virus Definitions' to receive the update."
