Sybase partners for security, mobility
Sybase is embarking on a number of joint development initiatives to build security and mobile enterprise platform technologies.
The Emeryville, California-based software company said it is teaming with Entrust Technologies to deliver security technology for electronic transactions and communications through Sybase's Enterprise Application Server 3.0 (EAServer) and Entrust's public key infrastructure (PKI) software.
In addition, EAServer will also include support for Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) beyond HTML to include PowerBuilder, ActiveX, C++, and CORBA.
Sybase also announced a joint development effort with Symbol Technologies to enable Sybase SQL Anywhere Studio and its UltraLite deployment technology to run on Symbol's portable systems and handheld terminals powered by DOS, Windows CE, and the Palm Computing Platform.
The two companies also announced that Symbol plans to join Sybase's Mobile and Embedded Business Solutions Alliance Program, which is designed to address the demand for applications tailored to this market.
In related news, Sybase today also announced that Thomson Investment Software (TIS) has selected Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise as the backbone architecture for version 5.0 of PORTIA and Thomson Open Trader, TIS' portfolio management and trade workflow solutions.
Sybase's Adaptive Server Enterprise relational database is used as a component of the PORTIA system, which automates trading, analysis, and operations for more than $3 trillion in assets for more than 400 money managers in 38 countries worldwide.
