Sybase's Massively Parallel Processing Enterprise Data Warehouse Server 11.0 will migrate to the Sun Microsystems' UltraSparc Enterprise system platform.

Announced with the unveiling of Sun's server clustering products, Sybase's MPP Enterprise Data Warehouse server is a parallel database that can work in a cluster of several servers tied together and working on the same processes.

The database works in symmetric multiprocessing environments, clusters of SMP machines, or in MPP data warehouses. The database is managed via the Sybase MPP 11.0 Manager, a graphical tool that juggles a series of tasks, including backups and restores.

In the past, Sybase has been slow to port the product to other platforms. MPP 11.0 is available now at prices starting at $120,000.
