Sybase aims Wi-Fi program at sales teams

Sybase on Wednesday unveiled a service that's designed to help businesses adopt Wi-Fi technology. Under the company's CRM Mobilization Program, customers can get their sales employees to try out a wireless system for handling customer relationship management (CRM) data. The software involved is the AvantGo Mobile Sales handheld application from Sybase's iAnywhere Solutions subsidiary. The 12-week pilot program includes 10 user licenses, 10 handheld devices and consulting services regarding installation, configuration, testing, implementation and support.

Wi-Fi technology, based on the 802.11a and 802.11b standards and related specifications, has seen rapid adoption in recent months. Businesses, however, have been somewhat reluctant to take up the technology, officially because of concerns about compatibility and security.
