Who said Hewlett-Packard has turned its back on the PC?

Just days after the company said that it's planning to spin off its PC business, HP has launched a new all-in-one desktop for business customers. Dubbed the HP Compaq 8200 Elite, the computer comes with a 23-inch HD LED display and the customer's choice of Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, or Home Premium.

HP's decision to launch the 8200 Elite now is somewhat of a surprise. Just last week, the company announced a significant shakeup in its business that saw the firm discontinue its TouchPad tablet and essentially shutter its WebOS operation. Moreover, the company said that it's looking to find a new direction for its PC business, the Personal Systems Group (PSG), as it refocuses its business around software and solutions.

"HP will consider a broad range of options that may include, among others, a full or partial separation of PSG from HP through a spin-off or other transaction," the company said in a statement announcing its decision.

According to HP, the 8200 Elite is the first from the company to use Intel's second-generation Core vPro technology to help boost performance and hard drive access. In addition, the computer comes with a one-year license to HP Virtual Rooms, allowing users to set up online conference centers to hold meetings and presentations.

Aside from that, the all-in-one will come with up to 8GB of memory, the option to add solid-state drives, and hardware-based encryption. Employees will also find an integrated Webcam and speakers boasting SRS premium sound.

The HP Compaq 8200 Elite is available now. The computer starts at $999 with the Intel Pentium dual-core G850 processor installed. Prices quickly rise for companies looking for an Intel Core i3 or Core i5 processor.
