SuSE to distribute Sun grid software
German Linux seller SuSE will distribute Sun Microsystems' Grid Engine software, a program used to hook multiple computers up so that they can collectively tackle computing problems. The companies made the announcement Monday. Sun released the grid software as open source in 2001, meaning that it can be redistributed and modified freely. SuSE is distributing Grid Engine along with a host of other packages bundled with SuSE Linux 8.0 Professional Edition, which costs $80. Though Linux is also open source and available for free, several companies sell their own versions, or "distributions," of the operating system combined with various other software.
