Surprise Attack, which launched in October 2011 to help Aussie developers market their games and has to date worked with 47 developers, particularly on mobile, has today launched its very own publishing label — the first independent label in Australia.

Called Surprise Attack Games, the new label will be working with developers across all platforms, including, PC, Mac, Linux, mobile, tablet, console and browser. The new label will help indie developers fund, resource, market and distribute their titles.

"Our vision for Surprise Attack Games is to build a new kind of publisher, inspired by the indie record labels I loved growing up in the '80s and '90s," said Surprise Attack founder Chris Wright. "Those labels weren't some separate corporate entity that came in at the end to handle the commercial stuff, they were an integral part of their local creative communities, and they helped lift up those communities as a result. That's our goal, too; ultimate success for us is to be part of tomorrow's superstars of game development reaching their potential."

Surprise Attack Games has three titles signed up already:

  • Particulars for PC, Mac and Linux, an arcade puzzler by Sydney-based See Through Studios

  • Wolfdozer for iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac and PC, a pixel art survival destruction game based on The Three Little Pigs and inspired by Grand Theft Auto by Melbourne-based Anomalous Interactive

  • Burden for PC, Mac, iOS and Ubuntu, a tower defence game inspired by Shadow of the Colossus, by Pickle Pixel.

All three games will be playable at the Surprise Attack Games booth at PAX Australia, running on 19-21 July.
