Alan Blatecky has been named executive director of the San Diego Supercomputer Center, the organization said Friday. Blatecky has been directing the National Science Foundation's Middleware Initiative and helping to lead an effort to create "grid" software to interconnect hundreds of computers into a single mammoth machine that can run many tasks simultaneously.
Blatecky, who will move into the new job in April, will report to SDSC Director Fran Berman. The SDSC is one of five key sites in the NSF-funded Teragrid project to build several high-powered grids and develop software to operate them.
