Sun Microsystems has signed up several retailers to sell StarOffice 7, the company said Wednesday. Among them are Amazon.com, Staples, CompUSA, Fry's Electronics, Circuit City, Best Buy, Micro Center, OfficeMax and Office Depot.
StarOffice and its open-source near-twin, OpenOffice.org, are frontrunners in an effort to provide a less expensive alternative to Microsoft Office. Santa Clara, Calif.-based Sun is using the software to try to decrease its reliance on server sales.
