Sun plans "self-healing" software
Sun Microsystems says it has acquired Redcape Policy Software in an effort to bolster its storage management software systems.
Terms of the agreement were not released, but Sun said it plans to integrate Redcape's Policy Framework with its StorEdge software family, creating intelligent, self-healing software systems that work to automate manual operations used for enterprise storage.
Boulder, Colorado-based Redcape develops Java-based automated policy software for the enterprise. Policy management software is an emerging technology that enables the enterprise to manage desired results or goals through automated policies. The company calls its policy management applications "self-healing" because they can respond to conditions and events automatically, taking corrective action without human intervention.
In addition, the Redcape Policy Framework includes an application development environment for creating management applications, prebuilt components, and usage patterns to simplify the creation of management applications for the user.
