Sun could pick up Apple by Saturday

Sun Microsystems is continuing its negotiations with Apple Computer to acquire the ailing Cupertino, California, company, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

Although neither firm has been willing to comment on the bid, the report cites people familiar with the situation who say it is Sun's third attempt at an Apple takeover in three months.

The report says those close to the talks indicate that the initial aim of concluding negotiations by next Tuesday has been moved up, with participants pushing for a resolution this week.

Although reports surfaced earlier this week that a $4 billion stock swap was in the works for the two companies, others say Sun and Apple are unable to agree on a price and the deal could easily fall apart.
