Study: Yes, spam's a problem

More than 70 percent of technology professionals believe that unsolicited e-mail, or spam, has reached epidemic proportions. But a third of companies still haven't put a solution in place, according to a study released Monday and commissioned by security software firm Trend Micro. The study, which surveyed more than 200 information-technology professionals from companies with more than 100 employees, found that a majority of companies have had a 25 percent to 100 percent increase in the volume of unsolicited e-mail messages.

Despite the increase in spam, consumers are determined to use e-mail, according to a study by the Pew Internet & American Life project. The Trend Micro survey found that the majority of respondents believe spam to be one of the top three tech priorities for their company. TechRepublic, which performed the survey for Trend Micro, is owned by CNET.
