Donkey Kong vs. Halo? Resident Evil vs. Tomb Raider? Which has emerged triumphant?
This is the question the World Video Game Hall of Fame answered Thursday in Rochester, New York, as it unveiled its new entrants. Four titles have been ushered into the gaming pantheon: Donkey Kong, Halo: Combat Evolved, Pokemon Red and Green, and Street Fighter II.
As predicted in an earlier version of this story, Street Fighter II delivered a mighty hadouken!! to Mortal Kombat in the final round.
The Hall of Fame had announced 12 finalists: Donkey Kong, Final Fantasy VII, Halo: Combat Evolved, Microsoft Windows Solitaire, Mortal Kombat, Myst, Pokemon Red and Green, Portal, Resident Evil, Street Fighter II, Tomb Raider and Wii Sports.
The World Video Game Hall of Fame, launched in 2015, boasts such luminaries as Pac-Man, Super Mario Bros. and World of Warcraft.
