Storage market gains more start-ups

Two storage start-ups announced their launch on Monday. Waltham, Mass.-based Incipient, which is developing storage management software, said it has completed $15 million in Series B financing led by JAFCO Ventures, bringing its total financing to $25 million. Incipient aims to put more of the management features on the networking gear itself and said it has a partnership with storage switch leader Brocade Communication Systems.

Separately, Austin, Texas-based Deepfile announced its entry into the storage management software market with the introduction of two software products--Auditor and Enforcer--as well as its first customer, Vignette. Deepfile said the main advantage of its approach is that Deepfile can implement policies based on the entire contents of a file, while many other software programs only act based on a file's metadata.
