Start-up takes security into account
The co-founders of VeriSign and a team of engineers from JavaSoft, Oracle, and Apple reveal plans for a trailblazing Internet start-up.
The company is expected to come up with a way for heavy Web users to use the same account interchangeably at home or at work with built-in security features, sources said. Nowadays, the process is more cumbersome, typically requiring two accounts and two email addresses. If successful, the start-up's product and services could make telecommuting from PCs more common.
The Java-based product also is expected to use the Web for running intranet applications with any browser and any platform, including Network Computers.
The company is in the very early stages of development. Now it goes by the generic name, Internet Startup, but a new name and more details are expected in a few weeks, according to Jim Bidzos, acting chairman of the company, president of RSA Data Security, and chairman of VeriSign.
"Our products and services are going to solve a huge problem that affects everybody that uses the Web in the office and at home, and will fit nicely with any policy you have at work," Bidzos said. He declined to elaborate.
The new company has secured financing from Bessemer Venture Partners.
