On Sunday morning, I saw a Verizon ad featuring Stormtroopers.
For weeks now, HP has had its own "Star Wars"-themed campaign.
It's a struggle for the people who made the actual movie to get their own trailers noticed above all the highly imaginative ads featuring "Star Wars" characters.
But please don't worry. It's not just in the US. Here is an ad posted to Twitter by the O2 cell phone provider in the UK.
What could they do that the Americans haven't (yet)? Why, bring together C-3PO, R2-D2 and the newest robot BB-8 (who, I understand, isn't sponsored by BlackBerry.)
They meet in a deserted landscape. The whole thing feels like some strange political summit or hostage exchange. Unless, of course, you prefer to think it reminds you of something you saw in one of the original movies.
The requisite bleeps and blurps are heard. The robots can communicate. Do they have some special Google Translate program?
But then we realize why these three great robots are meeting. There is an important message to impart. There is a crisis to avert. I won't spoil it for you.
But I will reveal that "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which bursts into human consciousness on December 18, has a happy ending.
How do I know? Oh, come on.
