You might not feel the awakening that's been hinted at in the many trailers for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," but you'll definitely feel the brain freeze awakening when you bite into this new Star Wars ice cream.
New York City family-owned Ample Hills Creamery partnered with Disney to launch two flavors of limited-edition Star Wars ice cream, The Dark Side and the Light Side.
Each flavor is designed to represent its respective side of the Force. The Light Side is a marshmallow-flavored ice cream with homemade crispy clusters, along with a few chocolate crispies to "represent the dark side still lurking within the light," says the company, which is the No. 1 rated NYC ice cream shop on Zagat and makes some of the best ice cream in America, according to Food Network.
The Dark Side uses ultra-dark chocolate ice cream as a base, with espresso fudge brownie pieces and chocolate crispies throughout. The Dark Side also has white-chocolate pearls to "represent the light still hiding in the dark, waiting to burst through."
The limited-edition ice cream will be sold in packs of four pints for $36, and will ship anywhere in the US with one- or two-day shipping. Of course, to keep the ice cream intact, the company needs to ship the stuff fast and in containers that will keep it from melting, so shipping will set you back either $38 (two-day) or $49 (overnight).
If you happen to be in New York City, you can avoid the shipping charges and pick your orders up for free at the Ample Hills Creamery's Gowanus location. Don't try to go to any of the company's physical locations to buy the ice cream, however, as the creamery is exclusively selling it to Star Wars fans online.
The pints are decked out in Star Wars decor with original artwork by Ample Hills Creamery's art director, Lauren Kaelin. Preorders for the ice cream begin today, and the product starts shipping around December 9. If you're a Star Wars fan in the US, this might just be the ice cream you're looking for. Might we suggest pairing it with a Death Star waffle?
