This BB-8 droid will beep at you if you open your fridge too long

The lovable droid's new mission is guarding you from the perils of energy wastage.

Although "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" introduced the world to Finn and Rey, perhaps the character that was most endearing to audiences was BB-8, the faithful droid.

A Japanese company has developed what could be among the most quirky BB-8 memorabilia: a fridge alarm. Popular in Japan, fridge alarms beep at you aggressively if you take too long to decide what to eat or leave the fridge door open for too long.

The little droid will watch over your produce while the fridge is closed, springing to life when exposed to the light of day to beep and whoop as it watches you scan for snacks.

The miniature recreation is 11.4 cm tall and 5.5 cm wide (4.5 inches by 2.1 inches), is powered by AAA batteries and has a fully rotating head, LED light and 20 uniquely familiar sound effects to toggle through. Perhaps most impressively of all, this BB-8 fridge alarm has been officially sanctioned by LucasFilm.

Developed by Hamee, this is the company's second Star Wars based fridge droid, with R2-D2 having received the special treatment previously.

The BB-8 fridge droid can be found on Amazon Japan for ¥4,500 (US$42, AU$57, £29). Whatever you do, though, don't strand the poor thing on another desert planet.
