Star Trek Into Darkness beams down to UK a week before US

Star Trek Into Darkness is beaming down to British cinemas on 9 May, a full week before the US release.

Star Trek Into Darkness is beaming down to British cinemas a week before the US release. The release date for the enterprising sequel has been brought forward to give UK Trekkies a full week of Brit baddie Benedict Cumberbatch all to ourselves.

The film, directed once again by JJ Abrams, has been brought forward to Thursday 9 May. It debuts in US cinemas 8 days later, although IMAX screenings will start slightly earlier.

The crew of the Starship Enterprise from the 2009 reboot return, led by Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, and our own Simon Pegg as Scotty. They battle Sherlock star Cumberbatch's mystery villain -- widely rumoured to be classic baddie Khan -- who levels a future London in an attack on the Federation.

Another Brit joining the crew is Alice Eve, who phone fans will have spotted being wheeled onto the stage at tech trade show CES in January, and boy, was she not enjoying herself.

Trek write and director Abrams has also been announced as the man to steward the return of Star Wars to cinemas. Was everyone else busy? I'm not convinced he's the man for the job, but let's not get too previous.

The dubiously titled Star Trek Into Darkness boldly goes in 3D and on IMAX screens. Are you excited for the return of the Trek? Set comments to stun in the comments section or on our Facebook page.
