Customers of St George Bank can now use their mobile banking app to withdraw money from ATMs without needing their bankcard.
St George, which is a wholly owned division of the Westpac Banking Corporation, has made the cardless cash functionality available via its iOS and Android apps as of today. Like similar offerings from other banks such Commonwealth Bank, the app generates a code that can be entered at an ATM instead of using a card.
Cash can be taken out using the system from any St George group ATM -- this includes BankSA and Bank of Melbourne. Both BankSA and Bank of Melbourne are also divisions of the Westpac Banking Group.
St George will limit its customers to three withdrawals a day with a maximum of AU$1,000 a week in cash. The amount to be withdrawn must be nominated before the app generates the cardless cash go, which will then expire in three hours.
St George also has a number of smartphone banking apps, specifically for the Apple Watch, and . While app, St George has not included this functionality. However, a St George spokesperson said that the bank was "looking at expanding Cardless Cash" on to wearable devices "in the near future."
