Vivendi Universal Games says Spyro Shadow Legacy, the newest installment of the 17 million-unit-selling Spyro franchise, will for the first time introduce magical powers, role playing game (RPG) elements, and martial arts fighting to the Spyro gameplay.
Spyro Shadow Legacy will have "RPG light" features. By fighting and defeating creatures in the game, players will earn experience points that improve Spyro's strength and abilities. This RPG element will allow players to use their experience to build Spyro's new magical powers and martial arts combat abilities as the game progresses.
The game will also take advantage of the DS' touch screen capabilities. Using the screen, players can draw symbols to cast spells or use the second screen as an overhead map. Players can utilise the Nintendo DS wireless capabilities to trade collectible creatures with other players nearby.
Spyro Shadow Legacy is expected to be available in Spring of 2005.
