Spyglass reshapes marketing department

Spyglass's vice president of sales leaves the company and SurfWatch founder takes his place.

In a restructuring of its sales and marketing department, Spyglass has appointed Jay Friedland as vice president of strategic marketing.

Friedland, founder and former vice president of marketing for SurfWatch, which was acquired by Spyglass earlier this year for about $13 million, will work with companies such as Microsoft, Oracle, and WebTV Networks.

Tom Banahan, former vice president of sales, left Spyglass "to pursue other interests," according to the company.

Spyglass makes browser software and licenses it to companies that include it in their own products.

SurfWatch is a filtering software that prevents access to specific Internet sites, particularly those dealing with sex or violence.
