Sprint's zero weekend-enrollment plan

Software upgrades kept Sprint PCS from enrolling new customers and activating new phones during a 48-hour period between Sunday and Monday at retail stores and through its Web site, a company representative said. The company knew the upgrades would black out that portion of its network, according to a representative. Sprint PCS on Monday estimated it would enroll 3 million new subscribers in 2002, about 700,000 less than previously projected.
