Sprint kicked off the week by announcing a pair of LG smartphones on Monday for two of its prepaid brands.

Available immediately, the LG Tribute 2 and Tribute Duo feature the signature design of LG's recent flagship phones. The resemblance stops here, however, as these feature hardware that's more in line with something from a few years back.

Powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 1GB RAM, other key specs include a 5-megapixel rear camera, a front-facing VGA shooter and 8GB of internal storage.

The display measures 4.5 inches with a 854x480-pixel resolution, the sort of screen that was common in 2012 and 2013.

On a positive note, the LG phones run Android 5.1 Lollipop, the latest official release from Google. And, keeping pace with other LG's of the day, the pair include QuickMemo, Knock Code and Gesture Shot for a more enriched user experience. Also a plus, the device supports Sprint Spark, the carrier's faster 4G LTE service.

Sprint Prepaid offers the device as the LG Tribute Duo while Virgin Mobile brands it as the LG Tribute 2. Already available through another Sprint prepaid brand, Boost Mobile, the new models carry a $100 no-contract price.
