Free airport Wi-Fi, Sprint and Boingo-style
The multi-year deal brings free Wi-Fi access to Sprint customers in 35 US airports.
Sprint customers who travel frequently may soon find themselves with new Wi-Fi hotspots to jump onto. The carrier today announced a multiple-year deal with Boingo that expands the hotspot provider's coverage in US airports.
As part of the new partnership, Sprint subscribers will be able to connect for free to wireless access points in about 35 airports across the country. According to the carrier, customers will automatically and securely connect to the Wi-Fi and will not be required to log in. Sprint promises that business users will be able to use their corporate VPNs reliably and securely.
Chicago O'Hare and New York's JFK are among the more than three dozen airports to receive Sprint's free airport Wi-Fi, along with Dallas Love Field, Boston Logan and Charlotte Douglas International. For a full list of participating airports check out this infographic.
In addition to airport Wi-Fi, Sprint also launched Wi-Fi Connect, a consumer router that prioritizes the carrier's Wi-Fi calling feature above all other hotspot activity.
Available for free to qualified customers, the device works with Sprint phones that offer the carrier's Wi-Fi calling. Most of Sprint's Android handsets and recent iPhone models are capable of the enhanced voice and messaging services.
