Sony Xperia Z1S and Tianchi rumoured for 12 November

Sony is rumoured to be readying two new handsets, to be unveiled in China next month.

Sony just recently pulled back the curtain on the Xperia Z1F, a shrunken version of its flagship Z1 handset. But now it's rumoured to be readying two more Android smarties for early next month.

The Sony Xperia Tianchi is said to be a budget handset, but it sounds like an absolute monster, if the specs are to be believed. There's also another spinoff of the Z1 in the works, called the Z1S, Chinese site Digi-Wo reports, via Android Community.

So, the Tianchi first. It's rumoured to come at a wallet-friendly price, but to pack in a ridiculous eight-core processor, the likes of which are usually reserved for high-end handsets. So how will Sony keep the price down? It's apparently opting for MediaTek over Qualcomm for the processor, and MediaTek charges a lot less. Its 2GHz MT6592 is expected to be inside, which it describes as its first "true octa-core" chip. It lets all eight low-power Cortex-A7 cores to be used at the same time, so should chomp through whatever tasks you can throw at it.

The Tianchi is also rumoured to have a 6-inch screen with a 1,280x720-pixel resolution. Again, pretty great for a budget blower.

Now, the Xperia Z1S. It's rumoured to have a 4.3-inch 720p screen, as well as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. These specs are the same as the Z1F, which has only been announced in Japan so far, so there's a chance the Z1S is just what Sony calls the Z1F in China.

The event on 12 November is rumoured to be held in Shanghai, so both of these handsets could be exclusive to China. But fingers crossed we get to see an eight-core budget model on these shores. That would give the Nexus 5 a run for its money.
