Sony unveils USB 2.0 CD-RW drives

Sony introduced on Monday two USB 2.0 CD-RW drives. One, the CRX19050U, is an external performance drive while the other, the CRXP-90MU, is a sleek mobile drive. The CRX19050U is currently available for $179 and has a rated performance of 40X write once, 12X rewrite and 48X read. The CRX19050U measures 6.5 inches wide by 2.1 inches thick and 9.7 inches long. The CRXP-90MU will be available in July for $299 and has a rated performance of 24x write once, 10X rewrite, 24X read and reads DVDs at 8X. The CRXP-90MU also comes with a Memory Stick slot and measures 5.1 inches wide by 0.7 inches thick and 5.3 inches long. Both drives are compatible with USB 1.1 ports. USB 1.1 enables devices to transfer data at 12mbps, while USB 2.0 boosts the transfer rate to up to 480mbps
