Sony planning notebook for U.S.
In addition to its new home PCs, Sony plans a notebook for the U.S. market.
NEW YORK--In addition to the consumer personal computers Sony announced today in New York, the company also plans a notebook PC for the U.S. market.
The notebook would carry the Sony brand name, a first for Sony in the United States, a company spokesman said. Although introduction dates and pricing are unknown, it would be a natural extension of Sony's notebook manufacturing business, the spokesman added.
Sony has manufactured certain notebook models for Dell Computer and Apple Computer. Several years ago, the company also made a brief foray into the Japanese notebook PC market with a Sony-branded system--but had little success.
The notebook would likely be targeted at the consumer market, the spokesman said.
