Sony Nasne DVR launches in Japan Aug. 30. But in U.S.?
The tuner and media device, which comes with 500GB of onboard storage, will go on sale for $216 at the end of the month.
Sony's Nasne DVR add-on is launching in Japan at the end of the month, but there's no word yet on when it might be making a trip overseas.
Sony announced the launch date today, saying that the device, which comes with 500GB of onboard storage, will be available to Japanese customers for 16,980 yen (about $216), including tax. The device will launch over a month later than Sony had initially anticipated when it announced a July 19 release date back in April.
Although the Nasne looks awfully similar to a PlayStation 3, the device doesn't play games. Instead, the "networked recorder and media storage device" can record both digital satellite and terrestrial television sources and then export that programming to a PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation Portable, or Walkman, among other Sony devices.
Nasne's main attraction might just be its ability to stream both recorded programming and live shows on up to two Sony products simultaneously, as long as they're running on the same network. The device also comes with DLNA support.
Sony has so far not said whether Nasne launch elsewhere around the world. In an e-mailed statement to CNET, a Sony spokeswoman would only say that the company has "not made any announcements regarding Nasne for the U.S."
