Sony names new U.S. CEO
Michael Lynton becomes the leader of Sony Corporation of America, overseeing the company's vast entertainment empire.
The winds of change continue to gust at Sony. The electronics and entertainment giant announced today that Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairman and CEO Michael Lynton will become CEO at Sony Corporation of America (SCA) on June 27.
Lynton's primary responsibilities will include overseeing Sony's vast entertainment empire, which includes Sony Pictures, Sony Music, and Sony/ATV Music Publishing.
"Michael is absolutely the right choice to succeed me as CEO of SCA," said Howard Stringer, who is leaving his posts as SCA chief and Sony Corp. chief. "He understands the vital importance of fulfilling Sony's unique promise of linking content and devices, and has been instrumental in our efforts to make it happen."
Stringer has been the longtime chairman and CEO of SCA, and also currently holds those roles at parent Sony Corp. On April 1, PlayStation honcho and electronics group leader Kazuo Hirai will take the helm as Sony Corp.'s new chief executive and president. On June 27, Hirai will also take over for Stringer as SCA chairman.
Nicole Seligman becomes president of SCA alongside Lynton, and they will both report directly to Hirai.
Finally, after all these years of handling so many positions at Sony, it seems Stringer will get a break from globetrotting between Tokyo and New York. Greener pastures await Stringer this June in the Sony hall of legends as the chairman of the Sony board of directors.
