Sony, HP uncap high-end cameras

Sony and Hewlett-Packard announced new digital camera models Monday. The Sony DSC-F717 is an update of the current F707 and comes with resolution of 5 megapixels, a 5X zoom lens and storage using Sony's Memory Stick format. New features include extra exposure modes and support for USB 2.0 connections to a PC. The camera is set go on sale in Japan next month.

The HP PhotoSmart 850 will be HP's most advanced camera to date, with resolution of 4.13 megapixels, an 8X zoom lens and storage using SecureDigital cards. The camera is set go on sale in Europe this fall for $698 (700 euros). North American pricing and availability was not announced for either camera.
