Sony Australia has admitted problems with its Vaio laptops that contain Nvidia GPUs — one year after everyone else.

While other vendors such as Dell, HP and Apple long ago responded to the issue, Sony only just caught up with the crowd, offering a three-year warranty extension for the GPU.

Sony lists the symptoms for a faulty GPU as follows:

  • Computer may display duplicate images on the screen, or exhibit distorted video
  • The image will not display for a certain period of time after turning on the computer

Sony's affected models list is vast, so customers who own Nvidia-powered Vaios should check it immediately to see if they qualify should things go wrong.

Faulty laptops should be returned to the nearest Sony Service Centre.
