Steve Banfield, a former high-profile executive at RealNetworks, has left the media software company to join Sony Pictures Digital as its senior vice president of technology. The Culver City, Calif., division of Sony Pictures Entertainment on Thursday announced the appointment, which is effective immediately.
Banfield, who started at RealNetworks in 1998, most recently had been in charge of strategic relations with partners and developing new distribution deals at the company. In his newly created post at Sony, Banfield will be responsible for manning the technology side of its consumer digital entertainment business, which includes such properties as SoapCity and Screenblast, as well as planned future products. Banfield is also a former Microsoft executive.
