Sony announces recycling incentive

New program offers Sony store credit in exchange for old notebook PCs.

Sony has announced a new program offering Sony store credit in exchange for old notebook PCs. The credit can be used at, Sony Style retail or Sony Outlet stores. The Sony credit can be garnered at any time; it does not have to be redeemed in conjunction with an immediate purchase. Sony will accept any brand of notebook PC with an operating system of Windows 95 or later.

Sony's Web site offers an estimate calculator on the trade-in value of old notebook PCs based on chip, processor and condition. Trade-in values range from $23 to $318. To obtain the Sony credit, customers can bring their old notebook PCs to a Sony retail or outlet store, or print a free shipping label to mail it in. Apple Computer, Dell and Hewlett-Packard also offer programs that encourage the recycling of old electronic equipment.
