AquaCell technologies on Monday said it has reached agreement to buy the maker of the SolCool solar-powered air conditioner for an undisclosed sum.

GPM, the manufacturer of SolCool, intends to release an upgrade of its air conditioner later this year which can run on as little as 300 Watts of direct current--the equivalent of a two solar panels. The air conditioner also has back-up batteries in case of power outages.

AquaCell makes water purification technologies and said the acquisition of GPM is part of its strategy to expand into alternative energies.
