Software firms to link back offices

Hyperion is calling on Oberon to help build links to leading enterprise resource planning systems in a new deal.

Hyperion Software is calling on Oberon Software to help build links to leading enterprise resource planning systems.

Under the terms of a deal announced today, the two companies will jointly develop a product called HyperionReady, an interface to connect Hyperion's analytical applications to the back-office automation systems from leading enterprise resource system companies.

The first interfaces will be for SAP's R/3 and J.D. Edwards's software systems.

Other plans call for bridges to applications for PeopleSoft, Oracle, and Baan.

Hyperion already has an integration deal with Baan to provide budgeting functions to Baan's financial module. Hyperion executives said this deal will provide more links between its financial analysis software and Baan's package.

Hyperion was acquired by Arbor Software, a maker of online analytical processing software, last month.

Oberon in has carved a niche for itself in the lucrative integration market. The Cambridge, Massachusetts, company makes software that acts as a data translation tool and bridge between various application packages.
