Google Allows Truth Social on Google Play Store
The Trump social media app had been in limbo over its content moderation policies.
Former President Donald Trump's social media app Truth Social has been permitted onto the Google Play Store after months of remaining in Android limbo due to concerns over insufficient content moderation.
"Apps may be distributed on Google Play provided they comply with our developer guidelines, including the requirement to effectively moderate user-generated content and remove objectionable posts such as those that incite violence," a Google spokesperson told CNET in an emailed statement.
All apps in the Google Play Store must have effective user-generated content moderation, including users being able to report content and the ability to remove or block abuse users who violate the app's policies. Truth Social has agreed to enforce its policies, including removing any content that incites violence, Google said.
It follows Google contacting Truth Social on Aug. 19, telling the Trump Media & Technology Group that the app violated several standard policies, and reiterated the need for moderating user-generated content.
"It's been a pleasure to work with Google, and we're glad they helped us to finally bring Truth Social to all Americans, regardless of what device they use," TMTG CEO Devin Nunes told CNET in an emailed statement.
Truth Social was made available in the Samsung Galaxy Store last week, while users could also download it from the Truth Social website. The app has also been available in Apple's App Store since February.
