Why You Can Trust CNET Amazon is selling the SNES Classic for $80 right now (update)

When his parents denied him a Super NES, he got mad. When they traded a prize Sega Genesis for a 2400 baud modem, he got even. Years of Internet shareware, eBay'd possessions and video game testing jobs after that, he joined Engadget. He helped found The Verge, and later served as Gizmodo's reviews editor. But last we checked, Amazon was still selling the remarkably-hard-to-find-unless-you-subscribe-to-deal-alerts Super Nintendo Classic Edition (SNES Classic) miniature game console, with its collection of 21 mostly fantastic preinstalled SNES classic games, for the regular, non-scalper price of $80.
It's not a Lightning Deal, or a Gold Box. This time, you don't need to be an Amazon Prime subscriber to buy one. It's just... there, for anyone to purchase.

Update, 8:30p.m. PT: As of 4:04p.m. PT the SNES Classics were gone, but Amazon will now let you pre-order the console ahead of its re-release date of June 29.
